Khed–Sinnar Expressway
The project involves four-laning of the Khed–Sinnar section of NH-50, which is a part of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and an important link between Pune and Nashik, two major cities of Maharashtra. The project bypasses crowded urban areas and realigns hilly sections of the road to .
Innovations and Impact
- Reducing the travel duration from Nashik to Pune by two hours, the project positively impacts productivity in the region. It further facilitates the fast industrial development along the project stretch especially at Sinnar MIDC and Khed SEZ.
- The project involved realigning of Ghat sections to bypass crowded urban areas, and steep gradients and sharp curves which hindered truck traffic. One such realignment in Chandanapuri Ghat involved 50-metre deep cutting of hard rock and filling of two valleys 40–50 m deep.
- A staggered arrangement of the toll plazas in the project has helped to avoid procuring additional land for toll plazas by accommodating all the facilities within the regular right of way of 60 m.
- Around 30,000 trees and 2 lakh shrubs have been planted along the project length. The project has also provided employment to local villagers along the highway during construction as well as during operation phase.
